War Memorial Hall

UPDATE 21st April 2021

We are hoping to begin a phased reopening of the hall on 17th May 2021 in line with the government roadmap

The memorial hall has been closed since the 5th November 2020 but a team of volunteers, supported by local tradesmen, has been working (within COVID guidelines) to maintain the hall and ensure it is ready to open when restrictions are eased. Long overdue maintenance and updating has been undertaken and will be ready for our hirers/users to enjoy as we reopen.

The trustees look forward to welcoming back our hirers before too long when hopefully we can move  towards a level of normality.

The hall management committee is looking to begin a staged reopening from step 3 of the governments roadmap hopefully on 17th May 2021.   In line with government Guidance and supplementary guidance from ACRE (Action with Communities in Rural England) COVID 19 guidelines and processes, to ensure that the hall can open safely and be COVID secure, are being finalised. A risk assessment is being completed and the appropriate sanitisation, cleaning and PPE equipment will be available.

These guidelines and the opening will be kept under close review but we hope that we will be able to extend the opening over the coming weeks and months. Any requests for hire will be considered against these guidelines.

The High Halden War Memorial Hall was opened in 1921 and since then has provided a venue and facility for the residents of High Halden and its surrounds. The Hall is a registered charity (charity number 213310) and is run on a day to day basis by a management committee of trustees. The trustees are all volunteers and either represent a village organisation which uses the hall or who are elected at the AGM in October. 

The governing document of the charity, dated 26th April 1955, includes the objective:

“The land with the building thereon………. to be used as a public or village hall for the benefit of the inhabitants of the Parish of High Halden and its immediate vicinity…..”        

The management committee work to manage the affairs of the charity in line with the governing document and relevant legislation.
