VE Day 75 Celebrations

Whilst the village celebrations had to be cancelled we know that people across the village will be holding their own celebrations at home. Bunting and flags have been created and put up and rumour has it that people are busy baking and practising dance moves and songs to perform in their homes and gardens. British Legion and ABC have put out some excellent ideas and links to resources (see VE Day Celebrations page on this site).

As I write this, the national moment of Remembrance and pause for a Two Minute Silence to honour the service and sacrifice of the Second World War generation and reflect on the devastating impact Covid-19 has had on so many lives across the world has already taken place which I am sure many of you shared.

Later today the British Legion has invited everyone to

"Join us at 9pm on Friday 8 May for a UK-wide rendition of Dame Vera Lynn’s ‘We’ll Meet Again’ to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day."

If you don't know all the words you will find them on the VE Day Celebrations page. No doubt this lovely song will ring out across the village as the applause for key workers has done every Thursday since the lock down began.

If you have any photos of your celebrations which you are willing to share on the website please send them in via the contacts page. Hopefully we will be able to create a collage of photos reflecting how High Halden celebrated VE Day 75 during lock down.

Most importantly though stay safe and respect the social distancing guidelines.

Horticultural Society Virtual Show

There are some beautiful pictures up of vegetables, flowers and a range of other items in our gardens. Well worth a look. Whilst the official entry date has passed I am sure that new submissions will continue to be put up!!
