Spring Show 2020

As we were unable to run our annual Spring Show this year, because of the restrictions caused by the Coronavirus, we decided to run a VIRTUAL SHOW instead. There were no classes, no judging and no prizes - just an opportunity for us to share our achievements.

We had a good response and, as you can, we received some great photos.

Flowers

  • Elaine Burford: Exochorda - The Bride, comes into flower for the first time. Bought several years ago with winnings from one of the Spring Shows.
  • John Audsley: Pansies - I received some rather sad looking little plants from a visitor last November, but I'm glad to say they flowered through the winter and are now thriving.
  • Shirley: Kalanchoe - I can't remember how many years I've had this, but it keeps growing and flowering.
  • Shirley: Aquilegia - I'm not a gardener, but I bought this last year, while out with friends, and I love the flowers.

  • Valerie: Pansies and tulips in the morning sunshine.
  • Pauline Reynolds: This picture shows a variety of a lovely daffodil, which you may have in your gardens, but it is new to me this year. I thought you might like to see it - I like it; I hope you do too, it's called Delnashaugh.

  • Carol Weare: Tulips have been in flower for weeks and have given much needed colour to a brand new garden.
  • Carol Weare: The very last daffodil flower in the garden.
  • Carol Weare: Spanish bluebells, naughty but nice, but I will not let them seed.
  • Hazel Gray: These tulips have 3 - 4 heads to each stem.
  • Hazel Gray: Peony just starting to flower.
  • Hazel Gray: End of Spring, beginning of Summer.
  • Liz Grant: This tulip came labelled as Candy Corner, which I ordered, but I'm not convinced. If anyone has any idea, all suggestions happily received.
  • Liz Grant: Candy Club is a pretty, small flowered variety, deep pink and yellow (reminiscent of a rhubarb and custard sweet) and the flowers never open more than in the photo.
  • Liz Grant: Marlette is a vibrant, deep pink with a small white centre, inside only, but somewhat battered by the elements in this photo.
  • Gerry Kemsley: Spathiphyllum (Peace Lily, or Sail Plant) - This is the most flowers I have ever had on this plant at any one time!
  • Gerry Kemsley: Kniphofia (Red Hot Poker) - This variety flowers earlier than most other Kniphofias.
  • Gerry Kemsley: Incarvillea delavayi - This lovely Incarvillea grows from a tuber and is always a welcome sight at this time of year.

Fruit & Veg

  • Elaine Burford: Step-over Apple Tree - Preparing its entries for the 'Dessert Apples' class in the Autumn Show.
  • Elaine Burford: Butternut Squash - I had intended to enter it in the class 'Any other vegetable', so guess we will have to eat it now!
  • John Audsley: Rhubarb - I never have much luck with rhubarb, but a kind neighbour gave me this plant last autumn and I remain hopeful.
  • John Audsley: Broad Bean Flowers - These give me hope for a good crop. Planted last October, they should be black fly free.
  • David Hamilton: 4 colours of cherry tomatoes, lettuce, runner beans and butternut squash.
