War Memorial Hall Update 1
High Halden Village
This is one of 2 newsletters going out concurrently to update you on the Memorial Hall and some of the organisations who use it. Please share these with friends, family, neighbours etc who live in the parish but who do not access the internet.
The Hall is getting ready to reopen
The hall will be reopening as a polling station on 6th May and then at step 3 of the government’s roadmap hopefully on 17th May for several exercise classes. The position will be reviewed at step 4 but we hope the hall will be open for all bookings from 21st June. Guidelines and processes will be in place to ensure that the hall is COVID safe and that users can return with confidence.
During the hall's enforced closure due to COVID, the management committee has taken the opportunity to undertake some overdue maintenance and upgrades. Working within strict COVID guidelines, a team of volunteers and some local tradesmen have fitted a wonderful new kitchen, created a new store for table trolleys, formed a cleaners store, fitted new emergency lighting and mains connected fire detectors. In addition, WIFI has been installed and will be available to hall users under a guest login.
As the hall celebrates its 100th Anniversary in 2021 the management committee hopes that later in the year an official celebration and grand opening of the new kitchen will take place.
For more information about the “kitchen project” and to see some pictures please visit the hall’s section on the village website.
We look forward to welcoming you back at the hall over the coming months. To make a booking please visit our webpages and then email [email protected] or phone 01233 743747.
A plea from the management committee.
We work as volunteers and trustees to ensure that the hall is run safely and in line with its charitable objectives:
"to be used as a public or village hall for the benefit of the inhabitants of the Parish of High Halden and its immediate vicinity".
It is vital that the management committee comes from wide ranging sections of the community and has a mix of skills, interests and experience.
We urgently need some new committee members to help balance the team and ensure that what the hall offers now and going forward meets the changing and variable needs of the community. We are especially keen to get some younger members. We would also like to find someone who might be willing to take on the role of bookings officer for one-off bookings.
Could you help in some capacity - 2 or 3 hours a month is all that is needed and would make a huge difference. If you would like to know more about what is involved or feel you could help, please contact Kim at [email protected] or phone 01233 743747.
