High Halden Village Contributor

Further to our recent newsletter with updates on the High Halden COVID 19 Community Group, the village school and the memorial hall, here is more news on what has been happening in the village. The innovative use of technology to overcome "lockdown" challenges is becoming a clear theme!

Little Acorns Nursery - update from Kelly McGrath, Manager 27th June 2020

It was lovely to welcome back our children on Wednesday 17th June after the staff worked hard following comprehensive government advice and guidelines and extensive risk assessments, to prepare the premises for their return and to ensure the maximum safety of the children and staff.

The children have thoroughly enjoyed playing with their friends again, in our two outdoor learning areas. They have adapted well to the change in surroundings, routines and restrictions on the use of many familiar toys and activities and continue to engage in a well practised, regular handwashing routine using songs to make it fun.

They have been enjoying physical and creative activities planned by the staff and the older children are being prepared for starting school in September. Those children who have not returned are receiving activities to enjoy at home.

A big thank you to all our parents and carers for their cooperation and continued support.

The Parish Council – update by Simon Robinson, Chair of the Council – June 20th 2020

The Parish Council is continuing to operate with our regular monthly meetings now taking place via Zoom; please feel free to join us. The details of how to access our meetings are published on the council’s website and the High Halden Parish Facebook page. Please visit the website and sign up for email alerts for newsletters, planning updates and events

Normal business is ongoing with planning issues featuring and occupying most of the time given by the councillors. There are currently only four of us so if you have an interest, or think you might be interested in a parish councillor position, please do not hesitate to contact either myself, John Sargent or our new clerk Louise Goldsmith for a chat.

From a village perspective, we should thank Jay and his team in the shop and Diane and Andrew (and their team) in the Chequers for doing their best to keep things going despite the virus. More about that to follow in one of our subsequent newsletters.

Finally, l should mention the Covid 19 volunteers who are helping to ensure all those impacted in High Halden by Covid are receiving support. Pauline Rose and Kristina Hoath have been instrumental in creating this force for good in the village, thanks to them and all those involved

Update from the Churchwarden 23rd June 2020

The congregation of St. Marys has been hard at work getting her ready to be opened. Between 10am and 3pm every day, you are able to visit for private prayer and contemplation. Please follow the advice on the signs to keep yourself and others safe. WE have tried to keep everything subtle and low key so as not to detract from the atmosphere of peace and calm.

There have recently been some concerns about the wild areas in the churchyard. If you have a grave in the area at the back that you like to have kept cleared please contact me and I will endeavour to get it cut. Any problems please contact the Churchwarden, Christopher Rose. [email protected]
